Teens and Concerts

As many adults may recall from their own youth, teenagers and concerts are often a source of conflict with parents. For many parents, however, the difference is that they were older back then than today’s teenagers are when they want to go to concerts. Furthermore, the “circumstances” are quite different today. The dangers that lurk at such events—both in general and specifically—are a reason for most parents to be wary. Many parents are also very surprised when their child, even as early as elementary school, starts to idolize a star or a band and would do anything to experience a live concert with that star at least once.

What should you keep in mind when attending concerts?

Naturally, teenagers want to do at least everything that their friends are allowed to do. Some children will say that their friends are always allowed to do everything, just to get their own way. Regardless of what promises teenagers make if they’re allowed to go to a concert, parents should keep the following in mind:

  • Adolescents are people between the ages of 14 and 18
  • If in doubt, accompany the young person as a parent
  • The Youth Protection Act does not explicitly apply to concerts, but
  • The age restrictions for restaurants, alcohol, and tobacco apply in all cases

Whether the concerts take place in an arena, at festivals, or on stages, the same regulations apply as in restaurants—this is especially true for alcohol and tobacco. Of course, it always depends on a wide range of individual factors. In such cases, parents should take a firm stance: either accompany their son or daughter to the event or forbid them from attending. Especially if the event venue is far away, the duty of supervision cannot be guaranteed. However, if children and teenagers travel to such an event as a group organized by an organization, the duty of supervision lies with the event organizer. The organizer must then ensure that there are enough adults present to supervise them.

Teens and Concerts – A Compromise

Depending on the concert, you might be able to let a 16-year-old go alone if the expected audience doesn’t pose a risk—as might be the case, for example, at a rock concert for a 16-year-old. Perhaps the decision to accompany your child isn’t such a bad idea after all, and your son or daughter might even agree to it if friends or classmates can come along as well. If the venue is far away, the question of traveling alone is likely to be settled quickly anyway, because the rule applying until midnight takes effect in that case. Once the plans have been finalized, tickets can be purchased from a suitable ticket provider such as adticket.de. This can be done easily through their website. This not only makes purchasing tickets easier in general but also simplifies the process of selecting from the various categories.
