Sweating is the body’s natural way of cleansing itself and is therefore healthy. For this reason, it’s advisable to encourage this process when you have a cold or the flu. However, excessive sweating is not healthy. A condition known as hyperhidrosis is caused by illness or genetics and can be harmful to both the body and the mind. What options are available to address this?
Home Remedies for Sweating
Before you resort to medical treatments out of desperation, it’s a good idea to first try some of these home remedies, which gently reduce excessive sweating.
Drink two cups of sage tea a day. This causes the sweat glands to contract, which reduces sweat production. In general, it’s possible to reduce sweating through your diet. Make sure to drink enough fluids and avoid:
- a lot of salt,
- Alcohol,
- spicy food,
- large amounts of strong coffee and
- Lots of fat.
These substances stimulate sweat production. Fenugreek, on the other hand, has a calming effect on the sweat glands.
Pay attention to what you wear. Do not wear tight clothing, as this restricts the air circulation that cools the body. Avoid synthetic fabrics. Natural fabrics, such as cotton, are more breathable. They allow more air to reach the body. The same applies to shoes; avoid wearing those with non-breathable soles, such as rubber.
The best way to deal with anxiety- or stress-induced sweating is to address the underlying cause. Autogenic training, meditation, and other relaxation techniques are effective.
Other Remedies for Excessive Sweating
A regular deodorant works well for normal sweating, but not beyond that. “Zero Stopp it” is an effective way to sweat less. It doesn’t mask the odor or suppress sweating; instead, it reduces sweating over the long term, so you’ll end up using it less after a while. It’s suitable for sensitive skin and works like a roll-on deodorant.
Before you consider medical treatments such as suction curettage, discuss this in detail with your doctor. This procedure is designed to remove the sweat glands through suction, which is only advisable in an emergency.
