For many people, summer once again flew by faster than they would have liked. But the start of the colder half of the year is also the ideal time to begin preparing for next spring. That’s because many beauty treatments are best performed in the fall or winter. This includes laser hair removal. We’ll tell you why that is.
The duration of treatment
The first and most important reason to undergo laser hair removal in the fall is the duration of the treatment. This is because, during laser hair removal, the laser beam can only destroy those hair follicles that are currently in the growth phase. At any given time, this typically accounts for about 15 to 20 percent of all follicles. For this reason, several sessions must be scheduled to ensure successful hair removal. Dr. Stefan Horwath and Dr. Martina Reichhart report from their daily practice at OmniMed that patients need an average of five laser sessions before most of the hair is gone. There should be a 6- to 8-week interval between these sessions. By starting treatment in the fall, hair removal will be completed just as temperatures begin to rise again.
The fall weather
The fact that we now have to turn once again to long clothing like pants, socks, and sweaters in the fall does have its advantages—at least when it comes to laser hair removal. This is because, after laser treatment sessions, the skin is particularly sensitive to light. That’s why doctors like Dr. Horwath and Dr. Reichhart recommend using sunscreen with a high SPF and avoiding direct sun exposure. As a result, permanent laser hair removal in the fall is much gentler on our skin than during the hot summer months.
Modern Laser Devices
In the early days of laser hair removal, it was still difficult to remove hair from tanned skin. Thanks to the development of innovative laser systems, this is no longer a problem. At the OmniMed clinics in Eisenstadt, Linz, and Klagenfurt, they use SHR technology from Alma Lasers for this purpose. Unlike single, high-energy pulses, this method is much gentler on the skin and tissue thanks to its use of multiple small light pulses. This is also evidenced by numerous positive reviews from OmniMed patients regarding their experiences with laser hair removal. Since the treatment can be performed on tanned skin, hair removal can now begin right after summer. And with that, nothing stands in the way of a hair-free start to next spring.
