The Advent season is a great opportunity to do crafts and other activities with children. Kids love to paint and do crafts, and the lovely atmosphere of the pre-Christmas season brings a sense of coziness and reflection into the living room. There’s a wide variety of projects to choose from. In addition to many craft books and pattern booklets, there are also plenty of suggestions and templates online for all sorts of things you can make. Of course, these should be age-appropriate; if children feel overwhelmed, they’ll lose interest, give up, and would rather do something else.
Crafts and More with Kids All Year Round
Craft activities with children are common in many institutions. Even in preschool, young children are introduced to the many possibilities these activities offer; while the primary purpose is usually to keep them occupied, there is, of course, an educational aspect as well. Through crafting, children can also gain knowledge at the same time, because:

- Crafting helps build patience
- Creativity is encouraged
- Topics are being developed
Even in elementary school, children regularly do arts and crafts, painting, woodworking, and needlework. These special classes provide a space where the items they create can be displayed and admired by others. Most children love these classes because they can really let their creativity run wild. Many a Christmas gift for Mom has been created here, and even the little ones in kindergarten bring home plenty of handmade items. The seasons provide plenty of inspiration, and each one has a lot to offer. While children make Easter crafts in the spring, the summer brings cheerful pictures and other creations from the children’s creative workshop. In the fall, it starts all over again with chestnuts, leaves, and everything else the forest has to offer at that time of year, and then the Advent season begins. This also marks the start for next year’s First Communion children, who are already receiving their first Communion classes. These classes also involve plenty of crafting and singing, painting pictures, or making straw stars.
Crafts and More with Children in Special Circumstances
The church also offers children the opportunity to participate in programs or events during their free time. These are announced in the parish newsletter, and activities are held especially during Advent, but also on many other occasions throughout the year. The “Biblical Puzzles for Children” activity can be given special attention in the parish newsletter. The editors of parish newsletters can obtain the materials from a specialized publisher and then publish them in their newsletter. In this way, every parishioner—but especially the children—is introduced to stories from the Bible, which is particularly popular during the Christmas season.
