A full-body massage where you can really let yourself go—wouldn’t that be another wonderful experience? The origin of the word “massage” can be traced back to Arabic or Greek and, accordingly, means “to touch,” “to feel,” or “to knead.” The skin, connective tissue, and muscles are said to derive positive and noticeable benefits from massage. In addition, however, it is believed that the human psyche and the body as a whole also benefit from a full-body massage.

What does a full-body massage usually involve?

As the name suggests, a full-body massage focuses on the client’s entire body. Massages that target only certain parts of the body are generally prescribed and sought out far more frequently. In most cases, full-body massages follow a similar procedure, which we’ll explain in more detail below.

At the beginning, the massage therapist focuses on the patient’s or client’s back, as it plays a key role in mobility and well-being. The session then moves on to the head, working slowly downward—all the way to the toes. Afterward, attention is turned to the front of the body. The massage is performed from top to bottom, among other techniques, because this helps to better release fluid retention. Scented or natural oils add that special touch, leaving the skin feeling pleasantly soft and soothing the senses.

Depending on where and by whom you receive a massage, a full-body massage typically involves about four different stages. These include, for example, massage techniques that use tapping motions or deep-tissue massage.

It’s also important to keep in mind that every woman and every man has different needs and expects or desires different things from a full-body massage. While some prefer a gentle, soft touch, others like to feel a bit more pressure and ask the massage therapist to knead a little more firmly.
