Shiatsu comes from Japanese and means “finger pressure” in English. However, Shiatsu involves using many more parts of the body than just the fingers. Practitioners—who are expected to be very open, careful, and sensitive—use their body weight to establish an energy connection. Muscle strength, however, does not play a central role in this process. Shiatsu has its roots in traditional Chinese massage and aims to distinguish itself from massages that are intended solely for relaxation. Would you like to learn more about what Shiatsu is? What is a Shiatsu treatment like?
Shiatsu is practiced using soft and gentle techniques, as well as stretching and pressure methods. Shiatsu is performed either on special mats or on thicker Japanese blankets. In our region, clients are usually lightly clothed, as the Masunaga method is primarily used here. In contrast, when following the Namikoshi method, clients are naked. S. Masunaga and T. Namikoshi are important figures in the history of Shiatsu.
A Shiatsu treatment lets you relax for just under an hour and do something good for your body and its energy. The price is about 60 euros.
What benefits are expected from Shiatsu?
First and foremost, the touch applied to the body is intended to enhance the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of the person being treated. In addition, Shiatsu treatments are meant to help individuals develop more fully and discover how they can reach their full potential. Furthermore, the goal is to awaken the body’s self-healing powers and allow energy (known in Japanese as “Qi”) to flow freely throughout the body without blockages. According to Shiatsu experts, it is only when the unimpeded flow of these life energies is ensured that a person can be healthy and enjoy life.
This is said to help people feel internally balanced and to promote the body’s ability to regenerate and heal. Furthermore, Shiatsu is said to help people transition from one stage of life to the next and is also useful for reducing stress.
