The Reader

The Movie The Readerwas released in 2007 and is based on a novel by B. Schlink. A 15-year-old, rather inexperienced boy (Michael) begins a relationship with a 36-year-old woman—Hanna. The two develop a veritable ritual, which includes the student reading various stories aloud to Hanna. At some point, the woman disappears, but Michael runs into her again many years later and learns some unpleasant details about Hanna’s life. This film is characterized by intense emotions. “The Reader” is a perfect example of how films aimed at women can be very profound, and is therefore something special.
