The selection of mattresses these days is enormous. There are models available for a range of prices and needs, so everyone can find something that suits them. However, women often fail to make sure they buy a mattress that’s tailored to their needs. Since women have a different body type than men, there are a few differences to keep in mind when making a purchase.
Take the woman's body type into account
- There’s a good chance you’re one of those women whose waist is narrower than her hips. While men often have narrow hips, this is generally not the case for women. Their shoulders are also more pronounced in comparison to their waist. When choosing a mattress, it’s therefore important that it adapts to a woman’s individual body contours.
- This can be achieved by using softer materials in the shoulder and pelvic zones. In the area where a woman’s waist is typically located, however, the mattress is firmer. Such models also often help relieve tension in the upper back when you wake up in the morning
- Many women are also lighter than their male partners. This is another factor to consider when making your choice. If you weigh very little, it makes sense to buy a soft mattress. Mattresses are generally categorized into three firmness levels: H1 refers to models for people weighing up to 60 kilograms, H2 is suitable for people weighing up to 80 kilograms, and H3 indicates mattresses for sleepers weighing more than 80 kilograms. As a woman of light weight, you’re therefore well advised to choose an H1 mattress. Of course, there are individual differences: Perhaps you prefer a firmer surface and would choose an H2 mattress instead.
- If you and your partner weigh about the same, you can share a mattress. A 140x200-centimeter mattress is sufficient if both of you are on the slender side.
- The situation is different when a light woman and a heavy man share a bed. In that case, it’s at least advisable to treat yourselves to a larger mattress. Otherwise, with a smaller one, the woman would always roll into the hollow formed by the man’s weight.
- However, it’s even better to choose two separate mattresses. This allows the husband and wife to each choose a model tailored to their physical needs: a soft one for the wife (for example, H1 or H2) and a firmer mattress for the husband (H3).
Women aged 40 and older should also make sure that any mattress they buy has a removable cover that can be washed in the washing machine. Since the first symptoms of Menopause If this occurs, increased night sweats are to be expected. The reversible cover allows you to unpleasant sweat stains on the sleeping surface.
