Spring is here, and everyone is already looking forward to summer. Whether the weather cooperates or not, everyone wants to look their best at the beach. Accordingly, designers are once again setting the trends this year for the swimwear that will be in style for both women and men this season. As is the case every year, these guidelines are only approximate and come from designers who often create prohibitively expensive garments. However, they also serve as a guide for retailers, who then pass these trends on to everyone. As always, there are no limits to the selection of colors, shapes, and designs.
What are the current trends, and what's in style?
At this year’s fashion shows, the major designers aren’t exactly speaking with one voice. One designer is showcasing classic colors, such as black and white, in unusual silhouettes. This year, the look isn’t limited to bikinis or one-piece swimsuits. Instead, sheer, mesh-like fabrics tie the individual pieces together. Others, on the other hand, are opting for pastel or lilac shades. For multi-piece sets, small, delicate floral patterns or other accents are also in demand. Another interesting trend is Mediterranean color schemes. Of course, these only really stand out against skin that’s already somewhat tanned. However, if you’re spending your beach vacation in Sicily or on the Riviera, that beautiful tan comes almost automatically. Elsewhere, a general trend toward glamorous chic is also evident. Here, classic colors are complemented by large accessories, such as sunglasses or hats. A diva-like, slightly affected style is also in vogue on the beach. It just needs to be used skillfully.
Tankinis are all the rage this year. They’re also very flattering for curvier women and can easily make you look a few pounds lighter. Patterned styles beautifully contour a fuller bust and highlight a gorgeous décolletage. Tankinis can conceal just about any problem area. This includes solid-color tankinis with attached legs, like shorts. Monokinis are also a beach staple. This season, however, bikinis, tankinis, or unique one-piece swimsuits made from special fabrics tend to be more in demand. The focus is on a woman’s uniqueness, and that’s exactly what should be emphasized. Whether it’s color, shape, or the overall look—the courage to embrace individuality and charisma is very much in style right now.
